Where will ‘Checo’ start in the race? – The financial

Formula 1 starts in America! The United States will be the first stop on our continent for the 2024 season, where the Miami Grand Prix will take place this weekend and there will probably be a lot of ‘Mexa’ presence due to the proximity to our country.

Additionally, for the second time this season, the sprint race will be held, which seeks to give an extra opportunity to the 20 drivers on the grid to score more points for the championship.

The first and last was precisely in the Chinese GP, where Max Verstappen won the short test (19 laps) ahead of the British Lewis Hamilton and Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez, who got on the podium in second and third position respectively.

On this occasion, the Mexican driver will seek to establish a higher position and take as many points as possible, which could be viable thanks to his performance in qualifying for this short test.

Summary and results: What happened in the 2024 Miami GP sprint classification?

In the first minutes of the calcification for the sprint race, the Red Bull drivers were timid when approaching, but little by little they let go. However, in the first round they came out underdogs (at least what they are used to).

With the first round of qualifying, we have that the McLaren drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, stayed in the first places, while ‘Checo’ Pérez finished in ninth position.

For SQ2, the Mexican driver considerably improved his performance, now occupying second position, only behind Lando Norris.

The most exciting round of the qualifying is SQ3, where it seemed that ‘Checo’ was going to take pole position, although this did not happen. He finished third, while Max Verstappen set the best time with 1:27.641.

Therefore, the Mexican driver will start on the second row, accompanied by Daniel Ricciardo, who after a long time returns to the top positions.

After this atypical classification for the second sprint race of the season, the Red Bull drivers showed that they remain at the top, despite the fact that the first two rounds did not go as they would have expected.

At the end of the qualifying round for the sprint race, the places that each driver will occupy for this short test, which covers approximately 100 kilometers, were finalized.

The Miami GP arrived on the F1 calendar in 2022 as a temporary circuit, but it looks set to become one of the favorites due to its proximity to Mexico and the results that ‘Checo’ Pérez has obtained at the Miami International Autodrome.

The two editions that have been held have been for Max Verstappen, who won the race in 2022 and 2023, the pole is something that he did not obtain since Charles Leclerc (2022) and ‘Checo’ (2023) were the ones who occupied first place from the starting grid respectively.

  • Charles Leclerc
  • Carlos Sainz Jr.
