Chancellor Merkel visits NRW. The opposition is not pleased. “Embarrassing,” calls SPD parliamentary group leader Thomas Kutschaty the visit – and reminds of the corona outbreaks in the country.
The visit of the Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel in North Rhine-Westphalia this Tuesday provokes opposition in the state parliament. On the agenda for Merkel is the participation in a meeting of the black and yellow cabinet, followed by a flying visit to the world cultural heritage Zeche Zollverein. Advice topics should be the Corona-Pandemie and the structural change in the Ruhr area. For the SPD, however, the talks are not the real reason for the visit.
Kutschaty: “Intra-party election campaign”

Now the visit is an instrument in the struggle for the Union’s candidacy for chancellor: North Rhine-Westphalia Prime Minister Armin Laschet and Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder both are considered promising. Söder recently received Merkel in a prestigious manner in Bavaria. “That’s why I can only evaluate the invitation for what it is,” Kutschaty told t-online.de. “The embarrassing attempt to make Markus Söder more or less the same.”
