In less than a month, more than 70 matches will be played in Canada and the United States (EFE)
The Leagues Cup is the new soccer tournament of the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Football (Concacaf) made up of all the teams of Liga MX and Major League Soccer (MLS).
For nearly a month, the 29 teams that make up the MLS will face the 18 clubs of Liga MX in a tournament that will be played in a format very similar to that of the World Cup, with group stages followed by knockout rounds.
The competition is made up of 15 groups of three teams each, which are divided into four regions: East, West, South and Central.
One of the innovations of the Leagues Cup is that there will be no ties in the group stage; if a match ends in a draw, each team will receive one point and then they will face penalties to get an extra point.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the round of 32, where the MLS Cup champion team and the club with the most points among the two Liga MX Apertura and Clausura champions have already qualified.
A total of 77 matches will be played over the course of a month at different MLS stadiums in the United States and Canada.
The Leagues Cup winner will qualify directly to the round of 16 of the Concacaf Champions League, while the second and third place teams will also earn a ticket to this tournament.
