Unfortunately, it is an unpleasant finding, but it is no longer worthwhile for Czech customers to shop in Polish stores. Prices there increased by some 20%, and that was only because the koruna weakened against the zloty. Many people still make the mistake of going there to shop, but they don’t look at how much they will actually spend in crowns for that purchase.
Great shopping
So this era is over for a while, but the question remains, where to buy food cheaper, when in the Czech Republic chain stores keep prices uncomfortably high. Few people want to return to them with large purchases, as this means spending thousands of crowns more per month.
However, there is a solution. “About six months ago, I discovered a store where I can buy on average two-thirds cheaper than in Lidl or Albert. What cost me 2,800 CZK there, I will buy here for seven hundred. I couldn’t believe my eyes and thought they had the price tags wrong, but it’s reality,” says Romana’s customer, whom we met in the Cheapest Food store in Prague.
This chain has quite a few across the Czech Republic, and other brands also operate in this segment. Just do a little searching on the internet, where you enter keywords like cheapest food or cheap food, and you will find that there are plenty of them in your area too.

Unprecedented savings
These stores are nicknamed “discount stores” because they offer clearance goods that regular retail chains no longer want because their expiration date is approaching. You can come across things here that are already so-called outdated. At home, however, you will usually find that there is nothing wrong with them, although of course no one guarantees this. But for that you can buy them for example with a 70 to 90% discount.
Another advantage of these stores is the fact that they usually do not use Czech distribution channels. They usually buy abroad, most often in Germany, which then also corresponds to the assortment. So you will come across completely different brands and types of sweets, yogurts and sausages. In the overwhelming majority, these are better quality foods than those sold in retail chains in the Czech Republic.

If you shop here regularly, it is possible that you will save significantly. “I calculated it recently and for our family of five, I save 12 thousand crowns for groceries and drugstores per month.” says Mrs. Romana.
