Status: 07.10.2021 10:52 a.m.

From October 11th, corona antigen rapid tests are only possible from medical providers and are subject to a charge. Exceptions apply to people who cannot be vaccinated and for whom there is no general vaccination recommendation.

An amendment to the test regulation by the federal government will come into force on October 11th. So far, test center operators and pharmacies have carried out free rapid antigen tests, so-called citizen tests. Now, with a few exceptions, you have to pay for the tests yourself. The reason for this is that there is an opportunity for everyone aged at least twelve to receive the corona vaccination. Therefore, the need for rapid tests has decreased significantly, so the social authority. Because proof of complete vaccination protection replaces a negative test result in Hamburg in everyday life.

Evidence only from medical providers

In order to be able to participate in events with 3G regulation, for example, only test certificates from medical test providers are accepted. This means that a test result must be issued by a doctor’s practice, a pharmacy or a laboratory (this also includes all PCR tests).

All other results from commercial test centers should no longer be accepted. The rule also applies: a rapid test result must not be older than 24 hours, a PCR test result is valid for 48 hours. Proof of recovery may not be more than six months old.

Who can still be tested for free?

Regular tests will continue to be carried out in individual areas, including in care facilities or integration assistance facilities.

The free corona tests are otherwise only offered to groups of people who cannot be vaccinated against the corona virus and for whom there is no general vaccination recommendation. This applies primarily to everyone under the age of 18 (from January 1, 2022 only for children under the age of twelve). In addition, pregnant women in the first trimester of pregnancy can still get tested free of charge, as well as people who have to isolate themselves because of an infection and take the test after they no longer have symptoms in order to be able to end the quarantine.
