Many bank branches have closed over the last year, with some regions more affected than others. So let’s go into the details and see what there is to know about it.

The last was marked by the impact of Covid which brought with it negative repercussions, both in terms of the social aspect and economic. Unfortunately, many families find themselves having to deal with a serious financial crisis, so much so that about 830,000 parents have decided to give up looking after children, in order not to further aggravate the family budget. Starting from the weekly shopping up to the bills, on the other hand, there are many times we find ourselves having to put our hand in the wallet, in order to to pay the various goods or services of our choice.

Precisely with regard to payment instruments, the latter have been subject, over the last few years, to continuous changes, so much so that the hypothesis of having to say goodbye to the use of cash and current account withdrawals. A scenario that could become reality already in the short term, especially considering the trend of the last year, during which we witnessed the closure of numerous bank branches throughout the territory. So let’s go into the details and see what there is to know about it.

The world of money is constantly changing and soon we could find ourselves having to deal with an increasingly reduced use of ATM. In fact, withdrawing at ATMs could be increasingly difficult, as well as costly. According to the data from the Bank of Italy, the number of bank branches is constantly decreasing. This means that there are fewer and fewer ATMs where you can withdraw cash, with the situation proving to be particularly problematic in some regions, compared to others.

They are well 831 bank branches closed in 2020, with Bankitalia that announced that bank branches decreased by 3.4% compared to 2019. Still according to the latest data, it is clear that in our country there is a bank for every 2,522 inhabitants and that in 2,802 municipalities there is no there is no credit institution. As a result of the decline in banks, therefore, there is also a decrease in ATMs, with the percentages that differ from one region to another. Going into the details:

  • Valle d’Aosta, recorded a negative percentage of -6.3% with a reduction in branches from 79 to 74;
  • Liguria, -5.8%, with the number of branches dropped from 677 to 638;
  • Abruzzo, recorded -5.7%, with the number of branches passing from 526 to 496;
  • Emilia Romagna, records a drop of 5.5%;
  • Basilicata shows a decrease of -5.4%;
  • Sicily recorded a -4.4%,
  • Friuli Venezia Giulia, presents a percentage of -4%;
  • Piedmont shows a decrease of -3.9%;
  • Umbria attests a drop of -3.7%;
  • Sardinia records a 3.7% decrease in branches;
  • Lazio drop of 3.5%;
  • Puglia, is among the least affected regions, with a 2% drop and the number of branches dropped from 1,077 to 1,055;
  • Trentino Alto Adige recorded a decline of 2.3%, with the number of branches rising from 736 to 719;
  • Lombardy it shows a decline of 2.4% and has 4,699 branches.

Data, those recorded over the last year, which certainly cannot go unnoticed. The number of bank branches, in fact, it records a sharp decline and the fear is that, in the short term, accessing the various services will be increasingly difficult.
