Where is the extradition procedure for Camille’s mother, kidnapped 11 years ago in Carqueiranne?

It’s been just two months since Priscilla Majani’s run ended in the Lausanne region (Switzerland) following a roadside check. This Frenchwoman had been living in hiding since she kidnapped her daughter in 2011 in Carqueiranne, in a context of conflictual separation with Alain Chauvet, the father of the child.

The mother justified this abduction by accusing her ex-spouse of sexual abuse of their daughter. Allegations ruled out by a judicial inquiry (hearings, expert opinions). Priscilla Majani had ended up being subjected to an obligation of psychological care.

The “little Camille” was then 5 years old. The girl and her mother would have lived in Italy in particular before settling, a few years ago, in Switzerland where the now teenager was educated.

The mother does not wish to leave Switzerland

Placed in pre-trial detention, Priscilla Majani is now targeted by an extradition procedure, at the request of France where the former military engineer was sentenced by the Toulon criminal court for “subtraction of a minor” (three years of prison) and “slanderous denunciation” (two years).

His transfer could have been carried out a few days after his arrest as part of a Franco-Swiss agreement, signed in 2003, aimed at simplifying the procedure… Provided that the consent of the person subject to extradition was obtained.

Or, “my client opposing it, a formal decision will be rendered by the Federal Office of Justice (the FOJ, in charge of international cooperation, Editor’s note)”indicates Me Benjamin Schwab, Priscilla Majani’s lawyer. The latter may appeal if the FOJ orders his transfer.

Enough to extend the period after which Camille’s mother could be handed over to the French authorities… And possibly retried in Toulon (those convicted “by default” can benefit from a new trial).

Camille wants to stay close to her mother

For Camille’s father, the stakes are high. His daughter, to whom he has become a stranger at best, did not wish to meet him. “I don’t even know his face”, he slips. The teenager, aged 16 and a half, intends to stay close to her incarcerated mother in Lonay prison (visiting rights have been granted). An appeal has been filed against this detention, specifies Mr.e Benjamin Schwab.

Local justice, in the name of the best interests of the child, suspended the parental authority of the father and placed the young girl in a home, advocating medical and psychological follow-up.

“I didn’t ask anything from Switzerland, I’m French, they’re French, I’m a victim in this case and I feel like I’m being treated like a suspect. I don’t understand why the file is not not in France, despairs Alain Chauvet, 74 years old. According to him, the distance is an obstacle to the efforts that could be undertaken to try to reweave a father-daughter bond.

In eighteen months, “the child of Carqueiranne” will be of age.
