Czech viewers know Andrej Chalimon as the little Russian boy from the Oscar film Coil. In mid-May, twenty-seven years will pass since the premiere of this gem of our cinematography. What does the representative of little Kolji do today and how has he changed?
Andrei Chalimon celebrated his 33rd birthday in January. When he was six years old, agents of Oscar-winning director Nikita Michalkova discovered him in kindergarten. After that, he traveled with his mother and sister Anna to distant Prague, where he lived for some time. He was engaged in filming Scrolls, but also attended a Czech school here. Chalimon was awarded in 1996 Czech lion for Best Supporting Actor. He also received another offer for filming, but his family did not receive a residence permit, so they had to return to Moscow. After that he got a few more minor roles.
He was trying to get into the theater faculty, where he wanted to study acting or production. However, he was not accepted. So he had to look for work. For a few years, he became the deputy chief of the conscript department at the district military administration. Here he prepared young soldiers for service in the army.
And what does he do for a living today? “Now I work for Swiss watches. Filming has always interested me. But when I stopped getting offers 17 years ago, even though there were still a few, I had to think about what to do next,” stated some time ago for eXtra.cz. He is single and childless.
And how does he remember the film and at the same time his life role? “He is amazing. It has not lost its message and importance even after so many years. It touches many life situations. Although everything ends well for everyone in it, that’s not always the case in real life.” Chalimon confided two years ago for eXtra.cz. He was also surprised that no one from the Czech Republic asked him for cooperation: “To this day, it is a mystery to me why other directors did not invite me to the next filming in the Czech Republic. After all, I received recognition from the Czech Film Academy in the form of the Czech Lion,” Chalimon said.
You can watch the film Kolja on ČT1 on April 8 from 9:35 p.m.
