Zelensky began his speech by mentioning the defense of the Donetsk airport (May 26 is the eighth anniversary of the start of the fighting for the DAP).
“And on that day, and on any day later and today, two things can be confidently said. First, Ukraine will always be an independent state, and it will not be broken. The only question is what price our people will have to pay for their freedom, and Russia – for this senseless war against us. And secondly, the catastrophic development of events could still be stopped if the world treated the situation in Ukraine as its own situation,” he said.
According to the president, such a development of events could also have been avoided if “the powerful of the world did not flirt with the Russian Federation, but really put pressure” on it in order to end the war.
“Just look at the situation now. How many weeks has the EU been trying to agree on the sixth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation, while it receives from the Europeans almost €1 billion a day for energy supplies. Of course, I am grateful to our friends who are promoting new sanctions, but where did those who block the sixth package come from so much power? Why are they still allowed to have so much power? In particular, in internal European procedures. For many weeks now the world has not dared to block the Russian banking system – all banks without exception, in order to deprive the aggressor of the opportunity to finance not only the war against us, but also the policy of creating splits and crises throughout the world,” Zelensky said.
He recalled that Ukraine calls for providing it with the weapons necessary to change the nature of the fighting and move “more confidently towards the expulsion of the occupiers”, in particular – multiple rocket launchers MRLS. The latter, he said, are really necessary to stop Russian aggression.
“We are confident that thanks to our efforts, we will still be heard,” the president added.

May 4 European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the sixth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation. In particular, according to her, it should include a phase-out of the EU from Russian oil.
Hungary is the last country to blocks EU oil embargo against RF. The Wall Street Journal wrote that the EU intends to give a delay of 20 months to Hungary. Politico noted that the European Union is considering compensation to Hungary for supporting the oil embargo against Russia.
9 May von der Leyen held talks with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. There is progress, she said, but more work is needed.
On May 12, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said that Hungary needs to invest hundreds of millions of euros in infrastructure modernization, to abandon Russian oil.
