Where can I play padel in and around Leipzig?

There is currently only one location to play in Leipzig: PadelCity Leipzig on Franz-Flemming-Straße in Leutzsch. There are four indoor courts and three outdoor courts.

According to the German Padel Association (DPV), there are only two other padel locations in Saxony: in the Hotel Sportwelt Radeberg and in the Feel Good Club in Chemnitz. There is also a padel court in Halle (Saale) run by the Hallisches Tennis Club Peißnitz. And there is the RB Leipzig pitch on Cottaweg, which is private and is often used by football professionals and employees.

How much does it cost to play padel?

At PadelCity in Leipzig the prices vary. Inside is more expensive than outside, more expensive in the evening than at lunchtime. For example, it costs 34 euros to rent an indoor court for 60 minutes after 4 p.m. For an outdoor space before 4 p.m. it is 24 euros. On weekends and public holidays, an indoor day ticket for one person costs 34 euros. The price to book a padel court is often similar to tennis. The difference: In tennis, often only two people share this money, in padel it is always four.

PadelCity rents rackets (three euros) and balls (two euros). If you want to buy your own equipment, you can buy three balls on site for 6.50 euros. The price range for rackets on the Internet is wide. It starts at around 50 euros.

If you want a private lesson, book the place and pay an additional 32 euros. A training session for four costs 12 euros per person.

When can I play?

PadelCity has had extended opening hours since November: during the week from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays and public holidays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

How do I book a place?

Via the PadelCity app or online. The game is played by four people. If you don’t know three people who are passionate about padel, you can join their WhatsApp group via the PadelCity website and network with like-minded people and arrange to play. The company also organizes a relaxed event in Leipzig every Sunday that is ideal for beginners.

What else do I need?

Sports clothing, a water bottle and sports shoes – tennis clay court shoes are best, but other shoes are also suitable, especially for the beginning.

Three tips from a padel trainer

Álvaro Bastarreche is manager and coach at PadelCity. His top three tips for beginners: “The first tip: Try to have fun. That’s the most important thing. The second tip: First of all, just pass the ball back and forth.” He recommends not trying out difficult maneuvers or focusing too much on the rules, just getting a few rallies going.
