Victoria, Marmagao, Panama City. It will be a summer of discovery and new places, but also of great returns. There will be long journeys to other worlds, with that flavor of adventure from times gone by, but without giving up the beloved seasonal classics, both in Italy and in Europe. Where will we go for the next summer holidays? He anticipates it Skyscannera global leader in the travel industry, which has released its latest report Horizons, which studies vacation trends and highlights booking windows, destination choices and the most searched and booked destinations from June to August. Analyzing the data of Skyscanner Travel Insight, which compare traveler behavior and anticipate search trends year by year, one fact immediately stands out: the era of the last-minute is over.
In Europe over half of those fly
We always plan in advance, even three months in advance: traveling in the post-pandemic era leads us to plan ahead. Maybe to save on soaring flight and hotel costs? It is no coincidence, in fact, that there is an increase in travelers who will choose not to fly to the other end of the world this summer and instead stay in Europe: 53 percent of travelers choose the Old Continent, with an increase of 4 percent compared to the previous year (49 percent in 2023), with one eye on the convenience of proximity, and the other on savings. On the other hand, however, theamerican dream and the search for travel in the United States decreases (from 14 percent in 2023 to 10 this year), and the cause could be – here too – in the increase in costs. “It is likely that the strength of the US dollar – reads the report – is discouraging travelers from flying to this distant area, seeking greater convenience and low-cost stays close to home”.
“Our latest analyzes from Horizon reveal a travel landscape that remains familiar while simultaneously evolving,” he explains Stefano Maglietta, Skyscanner Travel Expert. “While traditional seasonality is returning and demand for popular destinations remains high, travelers are also looking for value experiences and are also considering options closer to home. Across all Skyscanner platforms we saw incredible demand at the start of the year and we expect this to continue into the summer, especially in regions such as Europe.”
Spain and Greece the most “searched for”
Where will we go then? Spain and Greece dominate the ranking of the most sought after destinations, as every summer the beaches, islands and seaside villages will attract the majority of tourists. It is more popular than the others Palma: with its charm given by nightlife and wide beaches, but also museums and historical sites, the largest of the Balearics is the destination of the year on Spanish territory. Continued Ibiza, a beloved young and fashionable destination, linked to entertainment, clubs and nightlife, which is linked to wild nature and very varied beaches. In Greece the most popular is Zakynthos, less besieged by big tourism (usually) than the islands of the Cyclades. But among the summer destinations there is also the timeless Mykonostogether with the quiet and picturesque Heraklion Corfu.
But the price also rises Southeast Asian, which is experiencing an increase in popularity, especially Bangkok, one of the most popular destinations for the next season, as far as long-haul flights are concerned. Staying on topic, too New York e Sydney they will be the protagonists of the summer, for those who travel to the other side of the world.
New destinations: Canadian British Columbia surprise
However, there is no shortage of new destinations and the real surprises, which are increasingly intriguing travellers. What are the destinations on the rise? The places that saw the biggest increases in search volumes for EMEA travelers compared to the previous year reflect a mix of desire to explore new places and connections with new routes.
In the top ten of new destinations what is most popular above all Victoria, the capital of Canadian British Columbia, and Marmagao, in the southern Indian state of Goa: have seen an incredible increase in interest compared to the same period last year, with Panama City growing strongly, close behind. All have an average travel duration of approximately two weeks. Followed by Surat Thani in Thailand, Tulum in Mexico. If in sixth place is Bol on the Croatian island of Bra?, it is the Peruvian Lima that occupies seventh, with La Romana in eighth and the Kosovar capital Pristina in ninth. In tenth place there is finally an Italian destination, loved by compatriots, less known by European tourists: according to Skyscanner it is Lampedusa, the largest of the Pelagie Islands is the most searched Italian destination for foreigners traveling to the Bel Paese next summer.
