The 8th of July does not bring back the best memories for the Brazilian fans. It was on that day that, seven years ago, Brazil suffered the biggest defeat in its history: the fateful 7-1 against Germany in the semifinals of the 2014 World Cup.

The national team’s goalkeeper in the fateful 7-1 was the first of the players who entered the field to retire. He hung up his boots in 2018 at Flamengo, his heart club and where he was revealed to the soccer . In the 2014 World Cup, Julio defended Toronto FC, from Canada.

Nearly turning 40, Maicon is still active. He defended Villa Nova-MG in Serie D 2020 and, in January of this year, signed for six months with Sona Mazza, in the Italian fourth division. In June, he was announced by San Marino club Tre Penne for a two-match contract.

Named one of the “villains” in the defeat to Germany , Fernandinho lived one of the highlights of his career this season, when he had the chance to dispute the final of the Champions League with Manchester City. He has been with the English club since 2013 and recently had his contract renewed for another year.
