Where are the Brazilian team players

The 8th of July does not bring back the best memories for the Brazilian fans. It was on that day that, seven years ago, Brazil suffered the biggest defeat in its history: the fateful 7-1 against Germany in the semifinals of the 2014 World Cup.

Do you know where the 14 Brazilian players who took the field in the defeat at Mineirão are? Three of them are without a club and there are even those who signed a contract to play only two matches. Check out the list below.

Julius Caesar

The national team’s goalkeeper in the fateful 7-1 was the first of the players who entered the field to retire. He hung up his boots in 2018 at Flamengo, his heart club and where he was revealed to the soccer. In the 2014 World Cup, Julio defended Toronto FC, from Canada.

Maicon

Nearly turning 40, Maicon is still active. He defended Villa Nova-MG in Serie D 2020 and, in January of this year, signed for six months with Sona Mazza, in the Italian fourth division. In June, he was announced by San Marino club Tre Penne for a two-match contract.

David Luiz

The defender who was scarred by tears in the defeat against the Germans is currently without a club. He did not reach an agreement to renew with Arsenal and ended up being fired by the English team at the end of the current season.

Dante

Substitute for Thiago Silva at 7-1, Dante has been a player for Nice, France, since 2016. He had his contract renewed with the French club in December, while recovering from knee surgery.

Marcelo

The left-back had another chance after the 7-1 and played in the 2018 World Cup in Russia. However, since the elimination for Belgium, he has not been called up by Tite. It is currently speculated on a possible exit from the Real Madrid.

Fernandinho

Named one of the “villains” in the defeat to Germany, Fernandinho lived one of the highlights of his career this season, when he had the chance to dispute the final of the Champions League with Manchester City. He has been with the English club since 2013 and recently had his contract renewed for another year.

Luiz Gustavo

The defensive midfielder has been at Fenerbahce, in Turkey, since 2019. Before, he played for France’s Olympique de Marseille for two seasons.

Oscar

Scorer of the only Brazilian goal in the match, the 29-year-old midfielder has been in Chinese football since 2017. He plays for Shanghai SIPG. In 2014, the player defended Chelsea.

Hulk

Hulk returned to Brazilian football in January this year to wear the shirt of the Atlético-MG. The striker who in 2014 defended Zenit, from Russia, is one of the main names in the current edition of Brasileirão.

Bernard

Chosen by Felipão to replace Neymar against Germany, the striker has played for Everton, England, since 2018. In 2014, he was a player for Shakhtar Donetsk.

Fred

The center forward was at Fluminense in 2014 and, after passing through Atlético-MG and cruise, returned to the Rio de Janeiro club last year.

Paulinho

Triggered by Felipão at half-time, the defensive midfielder is currently without a club since leaving Guangzhou Evergrande, in China. Between 2017 and 2018, he played for Barcelona.

Ramires

The defensive midfielder who also entered the second half of the defeat had a frustrated passage through Palmeiras. He returned to Brazil in 2019, but left the club the following year with a performance below expectations. In 2014, he defended Chelsea. It is currently without a club.

Willian

Last player to take the field 7-1, the midfielder left Chelsea for Arsenal last year. He has a contract with the English club until 2023.

Felipão had been without a club since January, when he terminated Cruzeiro, but was announced yesterday as the new coach of the Guild. It will be the coach’s fourth spell at the club from Rio Grande do Sul.
