Alan Cleland will compete again at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the third round of surfing

Mexican Alan Cleland continues to make history at the Paris Olympic Games by qualifying for the third round of surfing and is very close to fighting for a place on the podium.

Alan Cleland, who became the first Mexican representative in the surfing discipline at the Olympic Games, had an outstanding performance in the repechage of the second qualifying round. Alan obtained 15.17 points, a result with which he surpassed the Spaniard Andy Criere and allowed him to qualify for the third round of surfing in Paris 2024.

“It is an honor for me to be able to teach all the Mexican athletes, and the girls, boys and children, that everything is possible and that they should follow their dreams, set big goals and not give up because everything is possible in this life. It is an honor to be able to open a path for the new generations and for them to know that everything is possible when you have high faith and believe in yourself,” Alan told the official Olympic Games website.

Cleland is 22 years old and was born in Boca de Pascuales, a rural town located in the municipality of Tecomán in the Mexican state of Colima. Alan began practicing professional surfing at the young age of 13 and achieved his qualification during the World Surfing Games held in El Salvador. His score of 9.73 gave him the Olympic ticket to Paris 2024.

Alan is in fourth place in the men’s ranking in the North American classification. In first place is the Peruvian Lucca Mesinas, followed by the Americans Kolohe Andino and Owen Moss.

Alan Cleland will compete again in the Olympic Games this Monday, July 29, and will face the French Joan Duru starting at 12:48 hours in Mexico City. The event for the third round of surfing will begin at 11:00 hours in Mexico City and you can follow it here through ClaroSports.

The winners of the gold, silver and bronze medals will be announced on Tuesday, July 30.
