When Wisma Atlet RSDC Shut Down, Volunteers Couldn’t Help But Sob

Jakarta

COVID-19 Emergency Hospital (RSDC) Athlete’s House Kemayoran officially stopped operating. As many as 16 thousand volunteers were declared retired today.

The closing ceremony for the Kemayoran Athlete’s Hospital Wisma Atlet Hospital ended with the shaking hands of the volunteers and joint officers who have been part of the handling of COVID-19 at the RSDC.

The volunteers cried while shaking hands. They were heard saying thank you and saying goodbye as their duties at the RSDC Wisma Atlet Kemayoran ended.

“If in the past we abstained from going home before Corona fell, then today let’s go home because Corona has fallen,” said the volunteer representative.

The volunteers will return to their respective places of duty. RSDC side Athlete’s House I also express my highest gratitude and appreciation to the volunteers.

“They come from various regions, from various TNI and Polri agencies. Maybe those from the TNI, Polri or civil servants will return to their agencies or units,” said RSDC Coordinator Dr. Guntoro.

“But for volunteers who are not tied to a particular agency they will return to their respective homes, some are from Makassar, Surabaya, Yogya,” he continued.

Guntoro said the volunteers had been fighting for about 3 years overcoming COVID-19. He said the release event was to honor and reward the volunteers.

“They have been fighting for so long, almost 3 years. But it has been almost 3 years that we have been operating and during that time they have contributed their thoughts, energy, and even their souls. They are heroes that we deserve to pay tribute to. Therefore, today this event was deliberately released to give a sense of thanks and appreciation to them,” he said.

Guntoro also explained about the fate of the Athlete’s House. The latest news, he said, is that the Athlete’s House will be returned to its original function.

“Until now there is no certainty, most recently it was managed by the PUPR Ministry. So there is a possibility that it will be returned to its original function,” said Guntoro.

“Even though there are thoughts of discourses for actually a hospital or this place, we maintain it as a hospital to anticipate scientific biological disasters,” he continued.
