When will you get your corona vaccines, and what type? These are all possible scenarios

With nine weeks to go until 11 July, the date by which every adult Fleming who wants to have at least a first injection, it is gradually becoming clear who will be vaccinated and when.

In the coming weeks, until the end of May, it will be the turn of the under-65s with underlying disorders. 11.7 percent of them have been vaccinated, an even larger part of the group of about 800,000 people has already received an invitation. The rest of the letters will follow in the course of next week and the last will be sent the following week.

Broad population: from May 23rd

From Pentecost, May 23, it is then up to the broad population of 64 years and younger. They will also be called up in descending age. A system such as in France and Germany, where soon every adult regardless of age can make an appointment without an invitation, will not be implemented. The Agency for Care and Health hopes to achieve greater vaccination coverage by consistently inviting everyone personally. Age also still plays a role, as a person in his forties still has a relatively higher risk of ending up in hospital with a corona infection than in his twenties.

On the tool you can already estimate when it will be your turn. Care and Health maintains a margin of two weeks within which your first vaccination moment will probably fall.

Which vaccine will I get?

At this moment you do not yet know which vaccine you will receive and which vaccine you will have to take into account. Nevertheless, there are some scenarios that limit the choice somewhat.

41 or older

Are you 41 years or older? Then the possibilities are the widest.

A 64 or 63 year old will receive a first injection between 17 and 31 May. The second shot will then follow either 4 or 5 weeks later (between June 14 and July 5), or 12 weeks later (between August 9 and August 23). That way you do have a ‘window’ of more than a month in which your second shot will certainly not fall.

From 62 to 53 you will receive your first injection between May 24 and June 7. Your second shot will then either be between June 21 and July 12, or between August 16 and 30.

From 52 to 46 you will receive your first injection between May 31 and June 14. Your second shot will then either be between June 28 and July 19, or between August 23 and September 6.

From 45 to 41 you will receive your first injection between June 7 and June 21. Your second shot will be either between July 5 and July 26, or between August 30 and September 13.

40 or younger

Are you 40 or younger? Then you will not receive AstraZeneca anyway, but you will receive Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson (without a second injection). So you do not have to take into account AstraZeneca’s twelve weeks in between.

How 40, 39 of 38 will get a first shot between June 7 and 21, and then a second between July 5 or July 26, depending on whether it’s Pfizer or Moderna.

From 37 to 30 postpones everything for a week: first shot between 14 and 28 June, second between 12 July and 2 August.

From 29 to 22 it is again about a further week: first between June 21 and July 5, second between July 19 and August 9.

21 year olds and younger finally get the first vaccination between June 28 and July 11, the second between July 26 and August 15.

Where do you live?

Your place of residence can also limit the possibilities even further. The Moderna vaccines, four weeks apart, will be deployed in only the five largest vaccination centers. This is because few vaccines are supplied, and it makes little sense to distribute them all over 95 centers.

Specifically, it concerns the centers of Antwerp (for Antwerp, Stabroek, Wommelgem, Schoten and Borsbeek), Ghent (for Gent), Leuven (for Leuven), Hasselt (for Hasselt, Zonhoven, Alken, Diepenbeek and Herk-de-Stad) and Kortrijk (for Kortrijk, Kuurne and Harelbeke). That does not mean that those residents will get Moderna anyway, but there is a chance. In those municipalities, about a quarter of the vaccinated have received a Moderna vaccine so far.

What is certain is who does not live in one of the above municipalities, will not get Moderna (in that case, you do not need to look at the Moderna columns in the table above). Someone aged 40 or younger who does not live there will certainly receive Pfizer or Johnson & Johnson, and therefore only has to take into account the free interval of five weeks.

In concrete terms: those who are 35 and live in Antwerp must take into account the period from July 12 to August 2 for their second injection, a peer from Mechelen may take off for a week and must count on the period from July 19 to August 2. August 2.

Move vaccination? That is possible (limited)

In any case, everyone will have the opportunity to reschedule their vaccination, although the government asks to try to stick to your proposed time. 3.2 million people will be vaccinated in June, giving everyone a different time will not work. However, you will have 30 days from the time of invitation to choose a different time. That will only be possible with a few days difference.

The second injection can also be postponed to a limited extent, it has been decided. At Pfizer it is two days, at Moderna four days (two before and two after), and at AstraZeneca ten days (five before and five after).
