The thirteenth has ended up at the center of public debate in recent days. The additional monthly payment usually paid shortly before the Christmas holidays, in fact, it could hold some surprises that are anything but positive. Due to the work emergency resulting from the Covid crisis, in fact, millions and millions of workers this year will receive a very small check. Or even, they will not receive any thirteenth.
In fact, those on layoffs do not have the right to receive the thirteenth, if not for the hours actually worked. Therefore, those who are in partial CIG will receive a decidedly reduced thirteenth month’s salary. Those who, on the other hand, are in the redundancy fund at zero hours will not collect any thirteenth: the amount due is in fact already included in the payment that INPS makes monthly. Compared to last year, according to the Studies Office of the CGIA in Mestre, the total amount of the thirteenths will drop by approximately 3 billion euros.
Thirteenth 2020, retirees first
According to the table drawn up by the CGIA of Mestre, the first to receive the thirteenth 2020 will be the retirees. The INPS will credit the thirteenth month already starting from 1 December 2020. In short, from Tuesday pension recipients will already be able to see the amount credited to their current account. Those who, on the other hand, usually withdraw their pension in cash from post office counters received a surprise: the payment took place starting from last November 25, first day of payment of pensions in December.
When the thirteenth of private sector workers arrives
The payment date of the thirteenth monthly salary for private sector workers is set at the national bargaining level. Broadly speaking, the employer is free to pay the thirteenth payment when he wants, as long as it arrives before the Christmas holidays. In conclusion, until December 24 every day could be the right one. It should also be noted that employee and employer can agree on the monthly payment of the thirteenth: the total will be divided into 12 equal parts and paid month by month.
When the thirteenth of public sector workers arrives
For public sector employees, however, the thirteenth month of 2020 will be paid together with the last salary of the year. The credit, therefore, it should take place by Wednesday 23 December. In short, just in time for the last purchases before Christmas: just check a few days before on NoiPA what is the expected date for crediting your current account.
