For decades, younger “night owls” in particular could rely on it: the night express that runs through the Traunstein district on weekends. But Corona put an end to it. When will this cheap and practical service return?

As is often the case with public transport, the public sector is spending a lot of money on the whole thing: the costs are estimated at 500,000 euros per year.

These small, white “cameras” are currently hanging on various bridges over the A8, A93 and A94 motorways.

The district office estimates that around 200 passengers per weekend. However, the ticket revenue, estimated at 47,000 euros, and subsidies from the government of Upper Bavaria are not yet included in the total costs. “The night express takes our young people through the region safely and cheaply at night on weekends. It was therefore very important to us to reintroduce the night express despite the current circumstances, such as the shortage of drivers at the transport companies,” concluded District Administrator Siegfried Walch (CSU).
