Discontent is rising in France, in particular because of the pension reform, and new days of national mobilization are planned for February and March 2023. If a temporary shortage ensues, it should not reach the levels of October 2022. Only a few petrol stations might run out of fuel. How to avoid the shortage and when will the next one be? We tell you everything!
Even if we talk more and more about energy transition, France and the French remain very dependent on fossil fuels. However, when refineries go on strike or organize blockades, gasoline is scarce at the pump and motorists have to queue for long minutes, even hours, before hoping to be able to refuel. In times of crisis, from Lille to Marseille, heavy congestion and endless queues are created near supply points.
When will the next gasoline shortage occur in 2023?
If it is obviously difficult to project very far, it should be noted that each strike affecting the refineries can cause small or larger shortages of gasoline, because this is often combined with blockages. Moreover, the war in Ukraine complicates the situation.
The next major refinery strike will take place on March 16, 2023. Refinery personnel are called to strike, but no shortage of fuel on the horizon a priori because stocks are full and there is no planned blockage.
How to prepare for the next shortage?
Our advice after visiting several gas stations:
The large stations, with large tanks, are delivered with diesel, generally at night or in the morning. Because of the demand, the diesel runs out at the beginning of the afternoon. So identify an important station and go there in the morning! Manual Line Return
On the other hand, the small stations are not or badly delivered in diesel. Often, they still serve gasoline.
Attention : it is only possible to put five liters (maximum) in a jerry can if it is broken down. If it is as a precaution, to prevent a shortage, it is prohibited by law. At most, it is possible to store at home up to 20 liters of gasoline and transport up to five liters.
