When will all the planets in the solar system align? page all

KOMPAS.com – In this solar system there are 8 planets orbiting the Sun (revolution). In addition to revolving around the Sun, everything also rotates on its axis (rotation).

Sometimes the planets are in a parallel line called a planetary conjunction.

However, conjunctions that often occur every month only involve a few planets, such as the conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn.

Is it possible that all the planets in the solar system are aligned?

Reported Science Focus, Due to the orientation and tilt of their orbits, the 8 main planets of this solar system can never be perfectly aligned.

The last time they appeared even in the same part of the sky was more than 1,000 years ago, namely in AD 949.

After that the eight planets will return to almost alignment on May 6, 2492 or more than 4 centuries.

However, for about half a century, the brightest planets take up positions in the night sky creating the impression of being in a straight line.

Some of the planets were last seen aligned in April 2002, when Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, Venus, and Mercury appeared above the western horizon like a celestial necklace with a crescent moon as a jewel in the center.

A similar coordination will take place again on September 8, 2040.

What is the impact on Earth?

If later the planets were aligned, this would not have a negative effect on Earth.

That’s because the gravitational effects of the planets are too weak for Earth. Whereas there are only two objects that can affect the Earth, namely the Sun and the Moon.

Instead of being avoided for fear of bringing negative effects, the alignment of the planets was actually utilized by NASA.

During the 1970s, NASA took advantage of the special alignment of the planets to send space probes on ‘big tours’ of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune with minimal effort.

Such an alignment occurs only once every 175 years. Luckily, it came right after NASA scientists figured out how to use it.

April conjunction

In April which coincides with the month of Ramadan there are several planetary conjunctions.

Reported Kompas.com, April 2, 2022, there are at least 4 times the phenomenon of conjunction, namely:

  1. Mercury’s Superior Conjunction (3 April)
  2. Saturn-Mars conjunction (April 5)
  3. Jupiter-Venus-Mars-Saturn Quartet Conjunction (19-24 April)
  4. Jupiter-Venus-Mars-Saturn-Moon Quintet Conjunction (April 25-28).

Mercury’s Superior Conjunction is a configuration that applies specifically to Mercury and Venus, when Mercury, the Sun and Earth are in a straight line and Mercury is facing away from the Sun.

“Mercury, Sun, Earth are in a straight line, changing the visibility of Mercury from dawn to dusk,” said Researcher from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Andi Pangerang.

Meanwhile, the conjunction of Saturn and Mars is a celestial event when Saturn and Mars will occupy one ecliptic longitude.

Then what is meant by the quartet is the parallel event of 4 celestial bodies. On April 19-24 it will be Jupiter, Venus, Mars, and Saturn that will align.

Meanwhile quintet conjunction is an astronomical phenomenon when 5 celestial bodies appear parallel or in line.

There will be on April 25-28, 5 parallel celestial bodies namely Jupiter, Venus, Mars, Saturn, and the Moon.
