When to watch it, schedule in Mexico and rituals on the Sturgeon Moon – Fox Sports

The first Blue Supermoon of 2024 is about to give us a beautiful astronomical spectacle, as the August 2024 Full Moon will be easily visible in Mexico, with specialists’ projections establishing that it will be 16% larger and up to 30% brighter than usual.

For those who enjoy these natural spectacles, they should know that it is in this “Supermoon” phase when the natural satellite is at or near the closest point in its orbit around the Earth (at least 90 percent of the perigee).

What is the Full Moon of August called?

  • Sturgeon Moon: A traditional name associated with the abundance of this type of fish during the month of August, originating from Native American tribes who identified it as such.
  • Blue Moon: A term indicating a second Full Moon in a month or the fourth Full Moon in a season, and not necessarily referring to a blue color.

When and where will the August 2024 Supermoon be visible?

The so-called Sturgeon Moon will occur next Monday, August 19 at 12:26 pm (Mexico City time). Being a supermoon, its size will be so large and its brightness so high that it will be easy to see without the need for special equipment, as long as the sky is clear. The good news is that if you can’t see it on Monday, the satellite will appear full approximately from the previous Sunday (August 18) until the following Wednesday (August 21), reaching its perigee on the latter day.
