Dortmund – Around 21 million pensioners in Germany are also waiting for their pension to be paid in October. The decisive factor is whether retirement took place before or after 2004.
Pension payout dates in October 2024: When the money will be in the account
In contrast to unemployment or citizen’s benefit payments, there are two different payment dates for pensions. These depend on when the pension entitlement arose.
- Pensions that started before April 2004 are paid in advance.
- Pensions starting from April 2004 are paid at the end of the month for which they are intended.
Pension payout date in October 2024: Money will be paid out over two days
For the month of October, there are the following two pension payment dates:
- Start of pension before April 2004: Monday, September 30, 2024
- Start of pension from April 2004: Wednesday, October 30, 2024

The German Pension Insurance (DRV) differentiates between “advance” and “subsequent” pension payments. For the first time since 2019, more pensioners in Germany have received arrears: “According to the pension insurance analysis, 12.4 million pensions were paid in advance as of July 1, 2019. 13.2 million pensions were paid in arrears,” says a statement from the DRV.

It is important to note that the pension payment is made by the “Pension Service” of Deutsche Post on behalf of the German Pension Insurance. Pensions are always paid on the last banking day of the respective month (or the previous month for pensions that started before April 2004).
Pension payout dates 2024: When does the money come in October, November and December?
The following pension payout dates for the remainder of 2024 are:
Pensioners whose pension began before April 2004 will receive their October pension at the end of September. Everyone else has to wait until the second to last day in October. In any case, the money should be available in time for the beginning of the month.
