when the little queen reigns over the city

Bringing the city back to bikes. That’s the idea. Sunday morning, June 5, Pays Thionvillois Tourisme, supported in its approach by the City of Thionville and the municipal sports office, kicked off its first Thionville by bike operation. This is to promote the practice of cycling and to allow cyclists of all kinds to (re) discover the city in complete peace of mind and in complete safety. This first operation, which is part of the municipality’s broader desire to promote soft modes, brought together more than a hundred people who embarked on the four circuits offered: 5, 15, 20 and 35 km.

Many families came from Thionville and surroundings and Meurthe-et-Moselle, but also experienced mountain bikers who set off to tackle the 35 km loop which stretches partly in the forest. If the 15 and 20 km courses were widely acclaimed by the participants, the small 5 km circuit was an opportunity for parents to introduce their young children to the pleasure of the little queen without fear of cars.

Mathieu, originally from Manom, has just completed the short tour with his 7 and 9 year old sons. “We had some difficulty finding our way around the Parc Napoléon but for the rest, it was great. The conditions are ideal for riding children who are just starting out in complete safety. “It got off to a bad start with the weather, but we had a good start at 10 a.m. with a lot of people, welcomes Jackie Helfgott, deputy delegate for Culture, who wants to put the event in time. And the chosen one added: “Thanks to the first feedback, we will be able to learn lessons and improve the concept so that it will be even better next time. »

Indeed, some marking difficulties, particularly on the 35 km circuit, have been brought to the attention of the organizers. “We got lost on the way,” says Christophe, forced to turn around halfway through. However, this little “hiccup” did not affect the good mood of this father. David came alone from Florange: “I find the idea very nice. For my part, it was an opportunity to (re) discover the city and the cycle paths. »
