In 2019, the brand McDonald’s closes its restaurant in the 14th arrondissement of Marseille. 100 people find themselves at the door in one of the areas most marked by poverty, where 35% of the inhabitants struggle to make ends meet. Former employees and residents of the district then have an idea: to occupy the premises and transform them into a platform of mutual aid, and in particular into a social and solidarity restaurant. The place is called theAfter, and has become a real HQ of food distributions for people in difficulty. Weekly distributions are organized with vegan and local burgers on the menu. Established illegally in the abandoned restaurant, the organizers are fighting for the international company to cede the premises to them for a symbolic € 1. TheAfter does not receive any subsidy, but has a pot, which since November has raised more than 7,000 euros.
