3D design and additive manufacturing for custom facial reconstruction
Lucid Implant is the first startup interviewed. They design, manufacture and market specific implants for facial reconstructions, intended, for example, for victims ofroad accidents or birth defects. While traditional implants treat patients indiscriminately and are mass-produced, “ Lucid Implant implants adapt to patients, not the other way around! explains Prashanth Ray, its CSO.
Traditional reconstructive procedures involve a standard implant (such as a mesh in General

These solutions lead to major problems, such as an increased risk ofhemorrhage or poor aesthetics. Lucid Implant addresses these issues and offers tailored medical solutions, from pre-surgical 3D simulation to custom implants for a perfect fit. Using theimpression 3D and additive manufacturing, Lucid Implant is able to custom manufacture these implants.
Thanks to the 3DExperience LAB, Lucid Implant employees were able to work from India on the cloud, in a collaborative way and have access to a lot of data from clinical tests.
Making life easier for diabetics through technology: PKvitality’s mission
PKvitality makes life easier for diabetics thanks to a smartwatch which monitors the structure of glucose
With the chemical formula C6H12O6, glucose is in the cyclic form (pyranose). It has isomers, that is, molecules that have the same chemical formula (this is the case…” data-image=”https://cdn.futura-sciences.com/buildsv6/images /midioriginal/6/8/b/68bd6b2dfc_50034235_glucose-dp.jpg” data-url=”https://www.futura-sciences.com/sante/definitions/biology-glucose-736/” data-more=”Read the more”>glucose of the patient continuously.
Blood glucose monitoring devices are needed every day for the 100 million diabetics serious around the world. But their choice is limited: between affordable but very painful blood glucose monitoring tools, and expensive and very stigmatizing continuous blood glucose monitoring devices, the solutions are far from perfect.
K’Watch, the continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system, developed by PKvitality, consists of two parts: K’apsul, a weekly patch that sticks to the skin, and the watch. The patch measures glucose levels from the so-called single covalent bond…” data-image=”https://cdn.futura-sciences.com/buildsv6/images/midioriginal/d/0/e/d0e3dc7e1e_76472_molecule. jpg” data-url=”https://www.futura-sciences.com/sciences/definitions/chemistry-molecule-783/” data-more=”Read more”>molecules of glucose present in the liquid interstitial that react with biochemicals on the microneedles. The watch interprets the signal returned by the patch, stores and displays the information, and can synchronize it with the cloud via a application. The solution is non-invasive since the patch is invisible. It is also more “green” and cheaper to produce, since there is no applicator and most of the electronic elements have been moved from the consumable (the patch) to the watch.
These two startups show us brilliantly that technology can be at the service of the noblest causes.
