When Nobby Brinkmann got greetings from the C-youth

Time as a successful player is long gone. But he is still fondly remembered by those familiar with the football scene in the city of velvet and silk. After all, Werner Kirchenkamp was a goalscorer for the traditional club BV Union Krefeld for almost 25 years.

First with the A-Juniors, then twelve years in the first and later 15 years with the old men. After his active time, he first took over the office of chairman and then that of chairman (from 2003 to 2012).

His career began, however, in the CSV Marathon youth team. When looking back, some of them immediately remember it: Although the 1.64 meter storm tank was not equipped with a guard measure, it scored almost half of its hits because it was blessed with considerable jumping power with the head.

Kirchenkamp, married, has a father of four and has lived in Tönisvorst for a long time – he has been in charge of the carpenter’s workshops on the left Lower Rhine for 40 years as a field worker – fondly thinks back to 1980. The Unionists celebrated their 75th anniversary with a game against the then Bundesliga club FC Bayer Uerdingen. A substitute at halftime – he had to travel to the attractive friendly game in Grotenburg during the week from Wesel, where he was stationed with the Bundeswehr – FC veteran Norbert “Nobby” Brinkmann said to him a bit jokingly: “The C-youth Doesn’t play today. ”But the second round had barely kicked off again when Kirchenkamp scored the honorary goal in the later 9-1 defeat: with a remarkable side pull, past the confused goalkeeper Kroke. And his counterattack after the goal in the direction of Brinkmann: “Greetings from the C-youth.” That Brinkmann was not resentful is proven by the fact that he later also played at a charity match for the Krefeld team after the sudden death of their coach Uwe Gerlach at the WDR Celebrity eleven ran up with. It was managed by radio reporter legend “Edi” Körper and filled with well-known sports greats with Rudi Assauer, Karel Lang and Heiner Brand. In his function as chairman, Kirchenkamp played a key role in ensuring that Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach could be signed for the 100th anniversary of his union. There was a financial risk, but with over 3,000 viewers, the income covered the expenses. He has received several awards for his various voluntary services and activities. In 2003, for example, as part of a weekend at the Edenkoben sports school from then DFB boss Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder, combined with a game by 1. FC Kaiserslautern on Betzenberg, which was still playing in the Bundesliga at the time. In addition to that, he also worked as a trainer in his club. He trained his sons Jonas and Jannik from Bambinis to senior citizens. Jannik runs the “Black Hall Performance Center” in Fischeln with national player Robin Koch. Koch, who moved from Freiburg to the English Premier League club Leeds United in the summer – he is 12th as a newcomer – is currently on hold due to an injury. That is why Kirchenkamp junior drove to the island some time ago (when it was still possible without any problems) to get his business partner fit.

By the way: Werner Kirchenkamp has been swapping soccer balls for small and heavy boules for eight years. After initially ranked 30th, he has now moved up to fifth in the internal club ranking.
