Azamgarh. Mafia Mukhtar Ansari may no longer be in this world but the stories of his crimes are still alive in Azamgarh. The fear of Mukhtar was so much in Azamgarh that those who did not obey him were killed. It was the occasion of student union elections where Shibli College student leader Ajit Rai found it difficult to raise the slogan of ‘Vande Mataram’ in the college premises and Mukhtar’s henchmen beat him with sticks and left him bleeding. Not only this, after that several bullets were fired in Ajit’s chest due to which Ajit died.
Mukhtar’s dominance was not only in crime but even the government used to bow before him. Perhaps this was the reason why the police could not take action against the killers even three days after the murder. After this, the then Gorakhpur MP and state head Yogi Adityanath had to reach Azamgarh and sit on a dharna. After this, action was taken against the murderers but the matter does not end here. In the eyes of Mukhtar’s henchmen, the MPs of Gorakhpur started getting irritated and on the behest of Mukhtar, in the year 2008, Yogi Adityanath was attacked on the pillow of the city.
Today, after the demise of Mukhtar, the people of Azamgarh are paying true tribute to the death of Ajit Rai. Let us tell you that Ajit Rai was an ABVP worker and a third year B.Sc. student of Shibli National College, Azamgarh. The day was 15 August 2004. That day, Ajit Rai demanded the teachers in his college to sing ‘Vande Mataram’ on Independence Day. However, some teachers and students of the college opposed it, calling their demand illegitimate. After this Ajit Rai was brutally murdered. During that time, there was Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh and Mulayam Singh was the Chief Minister.
