“The consequences affect the concept we have of our alliance, our partnership and the importance of the Indo-Pacific to Europe,” he added.
US President Joe Biden announced a new Australia-US-UK defense alliance on Wednesday (15/9), extending US nuclear submarine technology to Australia as well as cyber defense, applied artificial intelligence and underwater capabilities.
The pact is widely seen as aimed at countering the rise of China.
The move angered France, which lost its Aus$50 billion (US$36.5 billion) contract to supply conventional submarines to Australia when it was signed in 2016.
