When Kopassus was involved in a gun battle in Papua that resulted in the deaths of 2 KKB

KOMPAS.com – On Thursday (13/5/2021) at 07.30 WIB, gunfire broke out in Kampung Wuloni Village, Ilaga District, Puncak Regency, Papua.

Armed contact occurred between the joint TNI pasungan and the armed criminal group (KKB).

The TNI joint forces involved in the shootout against the group that had been labeled a terrorist by the government, came from the Special Forces Command (Kopassus), the Army Strategic Command (Kostrad) and the Infantry Battalion (Yonif) 500 / R.

“The troops who were in the firefight were a combination of the TNI (Kopassus, Kostrad and Yonif 500 / R),” wrote the XVII / Cenderawasih Military Commander Major General (Mayjen) TNI Ignatius Yogo Triyono, when confirmed. Kompas.com via WhatsApp message, Thursday night.

The joint TNI troops were involved in a gun battle with an armed separatist group led by Lerimayu Telenggen.

Maj. Gen. Yogo said, two KKBs were killed in the incident.

After the shootout, the joint TNI troops then carried out a cleanup.

There has been no information about the weapons and others in the possession of the two KKBs who died.
