Every month a mother talks about the moment in motherhood when things went completely wrong.
Anna (36), mother of sons Sietse (9) and Jelle (7) and daughter Famke (1):
“When it comes to sex, my husband Paul and I have to be inventive. Our youngest sleeps in a co-sleeper in our bedroom and making love while someone can possibly watch is going a bit too far for me.
Playtime
As soon as the boys are in bed, we still have about three hours before Famke gets her last bottle. Usually we spend it watching Netflix in a house suit, but occasionally we use the couch for some playtime. Our boys are good sleepers and the baby monitor is on the table in case Famke wakes up. Like a few months ago.
“We didn’t realize that our son had come down the stairs in the meantime”
We had first watched a porn movie and were completely in the mood. We kissed wildly and pulled the clothes off each other’s bodies. Paul pressed me against the couch cushions and dove on top of me. Due to the excitement, we did not notice that our middle son Jelle had come down the stairs in the meantime. I only realized he wanted to enter the room when I heard him pushing hard against the living room door. Thank God the door slams.

Fallen asleep
At the time I was still wearing a sheer lace camisole, but Paul was naked. I quickly hissed at him, “Pretend you’re asleep.” In a fraction of a second I pulled a pillow half over his buttocks with my still free arm. Jelle had apparently been awakened by a strange sound. He had called me, but when I didn’t answer he had come down. He looked stunned at the scene.
“Yeah, it’s funny,” I joked. “Dad was so tired, he fell asleep on Mum’s lap.” His sister did nothing else with me and I couldn’t come up with anything better so quickly. I asked Jelle to walk upstairs again, then mom would first wake up dad and then tuck him back in. Jelle was fine with it and I seemed to get away well.
The only pity is that since then we regularly hear: ‘Well, so weird daddy, you were just sleeping on top of mommy.’ We just hope he didn’t share this wonderful story in the circle at school.”
