The immunization champion of the Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI) dr Arifianto, Sp.A(K) revealed that the provision of the COVID-19 vaccine for children under 6 years of age is still not allowed in Indonesia due to waiting for recommendations from the expert panel.
“In the mass administration of vaccines from the government program section, a panel of experts from ITAGI will also be involved. There will be discussions from a panel of experts who feel they are being asked for recommendations. Until later there is a recommendation from the expert panel, then we can get the vaccine. So , just be patient, just wait,” said Arifianto, at the press conference of World Immunization Week, Monday (11/4/2022).
Meanwhile, the Acting Director of Immunization Management at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Prima Yosephine, MKM, said that giving vaccines to children under the age of 6 years had to go through a number of steps, such as obtaining a permit for use in emergencies (EUA) from the Food and Drug Administration (BPOM), as well as recommendations. from ITAGI.
This is useful to find out whether the vaccine is safe to use for children under the age of 6 years or not.
“Patience to wait, because indeed we only provide vaccines for this COVID-19, yes, it is a vaccine that has been recommended by ITAGI and already has a permit for use in emergencies (EUA) issued by BPOM, so the safety has been proven. For children’s vaccines under the age of 6, we will also go through the same route to be able to ask for recommendations from experts,” he said.
