How do we celebrate in the United States?

In the United States, the summer solstice is celebrated widely in the same way as Memorial Day weekend in late May.

Some people start their summer vacation on or around June 20, but many celebrate by having large gatherings with food, alcohol, and music.

Some people even get rid of their clothes as part of their ritual to welcome the first day of summer.

What is the Stonehenge celebration?

The Stonehenge New Year’s Eve Festival is one of the world’s largest solstice events celebrated in the UK.

It sits next to the ancient Neolithic site of Stonehenge in Wiltshire.

The stones are placed in a cluster of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments, as well as several hundred burial mounds.

At the solstice, people gather at Stonehenge early in the morning to watch the sun rise over the stones.

You can watch the rosters in action on the English Heritage Facebook page or on Skyscape.

Unfortunately, due to the postponement of Freedom Day to July by Boris Johnson, no events will be scheduled at Stonehenge this year.
