When I was younger, I couldn’t stand Bulgarians either, but I came to my senses

Unfortunately, it’s normal in North Macedonia, it’s normal to beat you, swear at you, shoot you because you’re Bulgarian, said the beaten boy

In Macedonia, we learn an altered, false history in which the Bulgarians are fascists, Tatars, says Hristian

For several days now, Pendikov has had round-the-clock police protection

“When I was younger, I couldn’t stand Bulgarians either, but I realized myself and became a Macedonian Bulgarian,” said the secretary of the Bulgarian club in Ohrid, Hristiyan Pendikov, to bTV.

We remind you that the boy was attacked and beaten on January 19 by three people in Ohrid.

Hristian says that the threats against him continue. According to Pendikov, there is information that he may be attacked here, in Bulgaria. They threaten his mother and his relatives.

“I was in a restaurant where my girlfriends were. Two, three people came. And they started attacking me for being Bulgarian. Only in words. Why have I called myself a Bulgarian, that I am a traitor? And stuff like that,” he recalled of the night of the attack.

“Then I left the restaurant to call Tome, to tell him what happened. He is the chairman of the club. Ilya came out and took my phone. He told me – “Go inside and stay calm so there are no problems.” I went inside and saw that they didn’t want me in the restaurant. I took my jacket and went outside. I was walking to the parking lot alone to get my car and go home. And everything happened there,” Pendikov said.

The beaten boy claimed that the fight lasted at least 10 minutes.

“Unfortunately, it’s normal in North Macedonia, it’s normal to be beaten, cursed, shot because you’re Bulgarian. The police are not doing anything,” said the secretary of the Bulgarian club in Ohrid.

“To be a Macedonian Bulgarian, you just have to realize yourself. In Macedonia, we learn an altered, false history in which the Bulgarians are fascists, Tatars. After reading world history, after reading about VMRO and what history is, I realized,” he commented.

He says that he did not like any of the neighboring lands before:

“We were taught such a story that only the Serbs are our brothers and everyone else wanted something bad to happen to Macedonia.”

For several days now, Pendikov has had round-the-clock police protection. He receives pictures of weapons and threats that people will come to Bulgaria.

“My mother gets threatened all the time. They write comments to her that they will kill her, that we are traitors, that we should move out of Macedonia, that we are not for there. I dream that one day we will be able to return to Macedonia, to be able to safely say that I am Bulgarian and that no one will do anything to me – not only me. To all of us who live in Macedonia and are Macedonian Bulgarians,” stressed Pendikov.
