A big change happened in my mind when I was involved with that young actor: Sharafuddin
Sharafuddin is an actor who gained the attention of Malayalee audiences as Girirajan Kozhi in the super-successful film Premam directed by Alphonse Putran. Actor Sharafuddin has played many different roles, starting his career in comedy roles and currently appearing as a lead actor.
Sharafuddin’s role as Josie in Varathan directed by Amal Neerad was a departure from his usual roles. Sharafuddin appeared in the film in a full-time negative role, completely different from what the audience had seen till then.
Sharafuddin says that it was the film Varathan that marked Sharafuddin’s name among the audience and till then he was Girirajan Kozhi to everyone. Sharafuddin says his mindset started to change when he was involved with Vinayakan and Fahadh Fazil. Sharafuddin was speaking to Star and Style magazine.
“It was Girirajan Kozhi’s role in Premat that opened the door to the audience’s mind for me. It’s good to see his dialogue still being used by trolls. But when Girirajan Kozhi became a hit, I feared that I would be stuck in such roles forever.
But after doing a few films with actors like Fahadh Faasil and Vinayakan, there was a big change in my mind. The way they handled the characters and the way they portrayed them were textbooks for me.
Josie, the character given to me by director Amal Neerad in the film ‘Varathan’, was the beginning of these studies. In fact, people started calling me Sharafuddin after the movie Varathan. Until then, I was Girirajan Kozhi to everyone,’ says Sharafuddin.
