A little over a week after the announcement of his appointment as head of the FC Metz team, Laszlo Bölöni was officially presented this Friday morning at the Frescaty training center.
The opportunity for the Romanian technician (69) – who has signed up for the next two seasons with the Garnets – to speak his first words. With a hint of shyness in the tone, a touch of humor but also determination.
“When I commit to a project, I am able to compromise with anyone,” he says. “I am able to go down really very low for the success of the collective. »
In this case, it will be a question of leading the Metz group towards an immediate recovery within a Ligue 2 championship which promises to be particularly disputed this season. “We know it will be long and extremely difficult because many teams have big ambitions,” admits the former Stade Rennais coach. “Especially since the changes (two climbs, four descents) make it even harder. »

Christophe Delmotte joins the garnet house
Passed by Nancy between 1994 and 2000), Laszlo Bölöni admits to having thought of the rivalry between the two cities and the two clubs, when signing in Metz. “When I join a club, I become its first 200% supporter, the first who suffers when things go wrong. I hope the fans will understand that because obviously I would like to be liked. But, above all, being respected is the most important thing. »
To carry out his project, the new Messin coach will benefit from a reinforcement within his staff. “I did not want to demand to come with so and so, especially since the people in place are competent”, assures the former Romanian international (108 caps). “Perhaps some have other objectives, in any case no one has, for the moment, manifested with me. For my part, I only expressed the wish to have an additional assistant and that was accepted. »
This deputy is called Christophe Delmotte (53), former defender of Lens, Lyon and Reims in particular. Coach of the Valenciennes reserve team since 2017 – with an interim on the bench of the pros between November 2021 and last May –, the triple champion of France (with OL in 2002, 2003 and 2004) therefore joins the garnet house. He was already the assistant of Laszlo Bölöni during the latter’s passage on the Lensois bench in 2011.
