Erling Haaland’s breathtaking development may be a little annoying for TSG Hoffenheim.
Because as the “Sportbild” reports, the German Bundesliga club had the opportunity to sign the striker in 2016, but declined because of the salary requirement of around 5000 euros per month.
The background: Michael Mutzel, head of scouting at the time, meanwhile sports director at HSV, invited Haaland to a one-week trial training session at the Hoffenheim Academy. The Norwegian also convinced.
In terms of wages, however, people in Hoffenheim stayed true to their own line of paying a maximum of € 2,000 a month for a B-youth. The concept is not to break the salary structure in the academy even for top talents.
Haaland eventually moved from Bryne to Molde, the rest of the story is known. After a year at FC Red Bull Salzburg, the goal getter went to Borussia Dortmund for 20 million euros this winter, where he hit the mark right from the start.
