ASKARA – The sky earlier this year will be graced by the Quadrantids meteor shower, which can be witnessed in Indonesia and many other countries without the need for special equipment.
The Quadrantids meteor shower occurs once a year when the Earth passes through a patch of debris in its orbit. This debris includes small pieces of rock that enter the atmosphere and burn up, creating streaks of meteors across the night sky.
Usually, the debris is left behind by comets, although in the case of the Quadrantids, it’s an asteroid called asteroid 2003 EH1, which causes the debris to be responsible for the rain.
The Quadrantids are one of the largest meteor showers of the year, running from December 26, 2022 to January 14, 2023. But the showers will be at their peak this week.
