When does the “hype” or visa lottery open again this year?

If luck did not smile on you this time, don’t worry, new registrations for the “hype” or lottery for visas to the United States will open again very soon, this time heading to migrate by the year 2025. But you must sign up this year. What a day? We tell you below so that you are very attentive to the dates.

The United States government offers 55,000 immigrant visas each year to people from countries with little immigration representation in the country. These visas are known in various ways in Latin America as the “visa lottery” or the “green card” lottery, although in Cuba the most widely used form is the “bombo”.

As you already know, visas are granted through a random lottery among applicants who meet the established requirements. The official name of the program is the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, and it allows those selected to obtain permanent residence in the United States.

HOW TO REGISTER FOR THE 2025 VISA LOTTERY?

This year, the United States Department of State will announce the opening of the program for fiscal year 2025, which will correspond to the requests made at the end of this 2023. The first thing will be to wait if Cuban citizens will continue to have this option, because the option parole may lead to removing Cubans from the list.

The deadline to enroll online in the program for fiscal year 2025 will be between October and November 2023, and it can only be done through the State Department website. Normally it is the first week of October, last year they opened it on October 5, so without an official date so far, it must be for those same days of the current year.

Since May 6, the 2024 lottery participants are confirming their information, whether they were chosen or not. Participants must keep their confirmation number until at least September 30, 2024.
