When do solar storms occur? This Astronomer’s Prediction!

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Last November, a geomagnetic storm caused a network of explosions from the Sun. According to experts, this is a warning before the same incident happens again in 2025.

“The last few years, we’ve had very little activity, as happened during the solar minimum,” Bill Murtagh, program coordinator at the Outer Space Weather Prediction Center (SPWC) of the Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), said in November. from the Daily Star, Monday (31/1/2022).

“But now it is increasing and increasing quite rapidly to the maximum of the next solar cycle we expect in 2025.”

He said he had seen the expected increase in activity as the Sun’s cycle rose. “It’s a kind of awakening phase”.

The storm that occurred last November showed solar activity could affect more than the sun itself. When a storm reaches Earth, it causes a number of phenomena called space weather.

Space weather is said to have several impacts. Starting from satellite damage to the presence of the aurora phenomenon.

The geomagnetic storm at that time was from a series of coronal mass ejections. these are bubbles of solar matter that the sun can sometimes eject.

Murtagh explained that a coronal mass ejection (CME) is a cloud of billions of tons of plasma gas with a magnetic field. “So the Sun shoots a magnet into space and the magnet travels 93 million miles from the Sun to Earth,” he explained.

Earth also has its own magnetic field. In the end the mixed magnetic field in outer space will create an unpleasant storm.

“The two magnets will come together and will create a geomagnetic storm,” said Murtagh.
