While on the set of the show “We are live” on Saturday evening, the singer Angèle admitted to being “really attached” to her physical appearance.
Interviewed by Léa Salamé on France 2, Saturday evening, Angèle said a little more about her relationship to the image.
“In the film (shown on Netflix, editor’s note), a moment ago, your mother said: “When Angèle was 4 or 5 years old, I said to her: “My daughter, you are very beautiful but that is not going to be enough! “”, launches the journalist to the Belgian singer. “Yeah, she blamed herself afterwards”, replies the daughter of Laurence Bibot. Because she said to herself “But why did I say that to a girl from 5 years?” And in fact, I think it’s important that she told me.”
Faced with Léa Salamé, Angèle then admits having paid great attention to the image she sent back: “Exactly, this physical aspect is something to which I really attached myself. It’s true that when I started I didn’t care a bit […] because I wanted people to listen to me and my music. And then once I was listened to, I saw myself everywhere, on all the TVs, in all the festivals, on all the giant screens and you say to yourself: “Ah, is that what I look like? Ah, I have a good profile.” Obsessed, Angèle? “Yes, and that’s something I’m trying to break away from today. It’s hard to go back but it’s possible and I think it’s important because otherwise after that I’m getting away from why I wanted to make music.”
