It has always been said that fruit, rich in vitamins, sali minerals and antioxidants, it is a panacea for our health. There are legions of doctors, nutritionists, naturopaths, food specialists, who also recommend several portions a day. But is this always valid in principle? There are also exceptions when it comes to fruit! That said, let’s illustrate when and why, in some particular cases, it is necessary to avoid eating fruit.
Seasonality, origin, quantity and quality
Thinking that you can always and in any case eat fruit is not in itself a principle, proper and always, correct.
First of all, space should be given to seasonal fruit. In this regard, a small consideration should be made. Why in nature the most sugary fruit is born in the warmer seasons? Because in summer we need more minerals and sugars are more easily disposed of by sweat. In winter, however, we will especially need vitamin C, taken through citrus fruits. For the rest, however, to withstand the cold, we will need more fat and more protein.
When consuming fruit, attention should be paid not only to seasonality but also to its origin. In this regard, its traceability plays an important role, although the ideal would be to prefer the provenance at 0 km. In this way it is possible to consume fruit that has healthy and intact nutritional principles.
Its quantity is also important, which must be moderate, although not absent. Then, it is closely related to the type of fruit, depending on the quantity of sugars and fructose it contains. Fresh fruit, in particular, is less rich in sugar than dried and dehydrated fruit. There are, then, in nature, varieties of fruit more or less rich in sugar. In the first group we find citrus fruits, apples, berries, plums. In the second, instead, we think of the banana, the fig, the persimmon, the date.
At what time of day to eat fruit
In explaining why it is necessary, in particular circumstances, to avoid eating fruit, it is necessary, first of all, to consider that fruit contains fructose which the body translates into glucose, which favors the accumulation of fat. The intake of sugars also produces glycemic peaks with consequent imbalances and related damage, not only to the metabolism. Therefore, favor the intake of fruit in the morning, at breakfast, or as a snack, but never in the evening or after 5 pm in general.
Possible combinations
In order not to run into sugar accumulation or fermentation processes, it would be better to avoid eating it after meals. Or to combine different types of fruit. It should never be combined with cereals and legumes. The starches contained in the latter combined with fructose cause the accumulation, inside the intestine, of alcohol and carbon dioxide. These fermentation processes cause cramps, digestive slowdowns, swollen belly.
If you eat meat, on the other hand, a lemon juice could be fine: its vitamin C favors the absorption of iron. The combination of meat and pineapple is also excellent, which facilitates the absorption of proteins.
Fruit and some pathologies
In the presence of important pathologies, the consumption of fruit should also take into account the advice of your doctor. For those suffering, for example, from diabetes, the intake will have to follow strict rules. While those suffering from gastritis will have to eliminate sour fruit, such as citrus fruits or chestnuts. Contraindicated in case of colitis, grapes, cherries and melon. Grapefruit, for example, interferes with some medicines, such as anxiolytics, antibiotics, antihistamines.
Finally, special attention must be paid to those suffering from particular autoimmune diseases. Also in this case you cannot ignore the provisions of your doctor.
