Jakarta –
Braking is a vital component of a vehicle. Even though it consists of various parts, there is one part of braking that must be replaced regularly, namely the brake lining.
There are various ways to determine the condition of the brake pads. Reporting from Auto2000, one way is from stepping on the brake pedal when the car is braking.
“A sign that the brake pads are starting to thin is felt by the driver, if when braking and the brake pedal feels deeper than usual, then that is already a marker,” said Dani Muhammad Sidik, head of the Auto2000 Indramayu workshop.
In addition, when the brake pads on the car have to be replaced, another feature is that the braking distance will be longer.
Another indicator that can be used to mark the right time to replace a car’s brake pads is when the thickness of the front brake pads is around 3 mm and the rear brake pads are 2 mm.
“In particular, the front brakes can be seen directly without being disassembled. The thickness of the brake pads, which are in new condition, is about 9 mm. For the rear brake pads, you have to disassemble them to find out the thickness. It’s different from the front,” said Dani, quoted from Auto2000.
“The thickness of the rear brake lining in new condition is 6 mm and if it is only 2 mm, it is recommended to replace it,” he continued.
Another thing that is right to be an indicator of replacing brake pads is to look at the car’s mileage.
Reporting from the Toyota Astra page, recommendations for replacing brake pads if the car has traveled 60,000 to 70,000 km for manual transmission cars. Meanwhile, cars with automatic transmission are advised to make a replacement after traveling 35,000 to 40,000 km.
“Automatic transmission cars are replaced more quickly because there are fewer engine brake symptoms, so the brakes are used more often,” wrote Toyota.
