When an F1 pilot builds his car: the customized Ferrari 812 Competizione is the new car of Carlos Sainz

This year, the Spanish racer begins his third season in the colors of the Ferrari team. In his private life, he will have his own Ferrari 812 Competizione from now on.

If you’re an F1 driver, you have no shortage of fast and luxurious cars thanks to your exorbitant income and proximity to the automotive world. This is doubly true if you are also the pilot of the historically most successful team in history – Ferrari.

Despite the fact that Carlos Sainz has already earned several tens of millions of dollars during his career, and this year his salary should reach up to 12 million dollars (approx. 263 million crowns), from his eighteenth birthday until he received his new personal Ferrari, he owned a Volkswagen Golf A sixth-generation GTI that he got from his parents when he came of age.

Of course, Sainz has had a number of company cars during his career, which has seen him switch teams from Toro Rosso, Renault, McLaren and now Ferrari, which has kept his personal Golf GTI from being used as much. Still, the fact that a person with almost unlimited options will keep their first vehicle for such a long period of time will stroke one’s soul.

At the end of 2021, when Sainz had his first season in Ferrari colors, he prepared a Ferrari 812 Competizione according to his own ideas through the Tailor Made program. After more than a year of waiting, Sainz revealed the final look of his first Ferrari via his YouTube channel.

Sainz mentions in the video that he prefers a dark shade for his cars, which is why he has his 812 Competizione in matte grey. While the fully black wheels complement the “dark” features of this specimen, the fine stripes and red brake calipers subtly brighten the car.

There are several details in the interior that refer to who owns this Ferrari. The door sills have the words “Smooth Operator”, which is Sainz’s nickname, and the black carpets with red trim have the number 55 logo, which the Spaniard races in Formula 1. The rest of the cabin is a dark gray shade with red accents and carbon details.

It’s great to watch Sainz’s enthusiasm build throughout the video. It is especially noticeable when starting the car, when the 6.5-liter forked twelve-cylinder engine comes to life. This powertrain offers an output of 610 kW (830 hp) at 9250 revolutions per minute, a torque of 692 Nm. The 812 Competizione accelerates to 100 km/h in 2.85 seconds.

We wish Carlos Sainz nothing more than to enjoy his first personal Ferrari!
