Amazon’s Alexa device, like any other good product, went through a tough development and testing process before it finally hit the market. However, during the development phase of this virtual assistant, there was a time when everyone thought the device could never hit the market after Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos lost his coolness to Alexa.
According to a reportBezos was so frustrated with Alexa’s inability to understand his commands that he angrily told her to “shoot himself in the head.” The incident took place during the testing of an earlier prototype-type product at Bezos in Seattle in 2013, referred to as “Doppler” at the time. The engineer who reviewed this on-device conversation with Bezos said he believes the product is finished and won’t be able to make it.The revelation was made by author Brad Stone in his book recently published. Amazon Unbound: Jeff Bezos and the Invention of a Global Empire.One of the product’s beta testers and Amazon director Neil Ackerman also reported that the assistant would barely understand the commands and give the correct answers.
However, the efforts of the team behind the product weren’t in vain, and they quickly found other ways to make artificial intelligence technology ‘smarter’. Amazon’s first version of Alexa launched with the Amazon Echo smart speakers. Over the years, the product has grown in popularity with customers, and Amazon has sold over 100 million built-in devices with built-in Alexa.
That might be what happens when you refuse to give up on ideas, no matter how difficult it may seem and we know Bezos does it. Bezos, who is currently the the richest man in the world, had a very modest start with Amazon in 1994. His current net worth is said to be $ 184 billion.
