Maternity looks like a teenager “Jaksel”
An urban observer from Trisakti University, Yayat Supriatna, observes that this phenomenon cannot be separated from the growing popularity of the term “South Jakarta children” or a child who often hangs out in the South Jakarta area.
“This is like (child) Citayam tastes of South Jakarta children. South Jakarta children are identical with higher status, modern, and like to talk in mixed languages with English,” said Yayat to Kompas.com, Sunday (3/7/2022).
Lifestyle “South Jakarta children“This is also increasingly popular on social media. This makes many people vying to be popular like South Jakarta children, including suburban residents.
“The BNI Station area is like the front yard of Citayam and Depok. Because they only take the KRL (electric train) commuter line. With low costs, they can reach it immediately,” said Yayat.

According to Yayat, the area around Depok, Citayam, Bojong Gede, to Bogor can actually be called an urban area. However, this area is not yet a city.
Thus, said Yayat, this phenomenon shows the desire of the teenager to become a city person in the context of adolescent life.
“Life as teenagers with the existence of social media requires them to be something more. However, this (space) does not exist in Citayam or Bojong Gede,” said Yayat.
Lack of expression space
Yayat also believes that the Kendal Tunnel which was raided by teenagers on the outskirts of the city was triggered by the lack of public space in his residence.

“They need play, status, and space for activity. So it’s a natural phenomenon because of the dynamics, especially those related to (social) status,” said Yayat.
Yayat explained that the Depok-Citayam area is like an area rural-urban, namely a transitional area that touches on a few urban areas but has not yet become a city.
Meanwhile, the Kendal Tunnel, which is located in the area around the Dukuh Atas MRT Station, is considered to be a status symbol for the main points of the city of Jakarta.
Moreover, the area goes directly to the heart of the city, one of which is Jalan MH Thamrin and Jalan Jenderal Sudirman.
For these teenagers, Yayat said, in the context of social media, it will have a tremendous impact on their social status every time they upload content.
“So, it will feel urban and modern. Meanwhile, that feeling does not exist in Citayam Depok or in Bojong Gede. They lack space for expression,” said Yayat.
