When a song published before the pandemic seems to talk about what was going to happen to us | Fire and thumbtacks

Two months after departure The New Lights, Bultur continues to gain followers among indie sound addicts made in Murcia Because, although they are from Madrid, in recent years they have felt challenged by the epic guitar-making of bands like Second or Viva Sweden and have chosen to hit the road to record with Murcian producer Raúl de Lara (Second, Nunatak, Neuman ), also with the collaboration of guitarist Jorge Guirao (Second).

In Fuego y Chinchetas is hard for us to be impartial because the drummer from Bultur, Álvaro Calzado, works at Cadena SER and, in fact, designed our logo! But we have been listening to the album since May —the expected release date … until COVID arrived— and throughout this time we have not stopped enjoying songs like The disaster, The back view O Keep dancing. The latter also looks like a reaction to pandemic fatigue, a 2020 anthem! But no: the single It was published months before … To clear doubts we have asked them to dissect their songs, commenting on them ‘in the first person’ one by one. This is the result:

In white

With the first theme, we were already looking to get you into the ointment. A song that could perfectly have been a single —something fervently implored by our dear friend Mauri D. Galiano—, very direct and danceable. It is a song that underwent several changes, after a long time and going through several ideas, and we love it.

The New Lights

It is the song that gives the album its name. When it comes to playing it, it gives us energy and we have a tremendous time. We really want to convey that feeling on stage to people. It also has ‘T-shirt phrase’ included; Let’s see if you can find out what it is 🙂

The disaster

It is the song on the album that has the most ‘bulturian’ essence. An epic and powerful track, perhaps less ‘happy’ than the others, but one that hits you in the chest. The looped Martian ending was the idea of Raúl de Lara, our producer, and we love it.

The Back View

Could it be our most ‘mainstream’ topic? It may be our most ‘mainstream’ topic. The lyrics have quite personal connotations and it is a subject that excites us a lot when it comes to playing it. It is a nostalgic song to move forward and not look back at the obstacles that could be put on you.

Keep dancing

It was our first single and it is the song that has undergone the least changes, if we compare it with the original idea. It is direct, fast … it encourages that, to keep dancing and keep the rhythm in your life, despite the noise and what may be happening. It seems that we had composed it thinking about this pandemic and everything.

The Badly Painted Streets

A song that leaves us exhausted when we play it but with a tremendous rush and a tremendous smile. From calm to storm, from 0 to 100 as soon as Álvaro’s drums and box enter. It is a theme that reaffirms you in following your instinct, your path, despite the obstacles. Loving you and that nothing and nobody stop you.

There is always more than what you see

The subject of this song is curious because it was a fairly old idea that has endured throughout our composition process —even, it was almost discarded—, but with the help of Raúl de Lara, it became one of the songs that most listens to. our closest people; it was even the third single before the album was released. And indeed, we realized that there is always more than what you see;)

Desire and Distance

Although it is true that it is one of the songs that we recorded first, it has not aged badly in all this time in our place, we really enjoy playing it. It has power, with a very ‘indie’ chorus and a very nice smoking part, which came out with the help of Raúl’s ideas and the creativity and gadgets of the genius Jorge Guirao, Second’s guitarist.

Reunions

One of the most searched terms this year and the one with which it is falling, with this of the pandemic, the reunions. Sometimes they are fantastic, sometimes horrible. It is one of the most emotional songs that we have on the album. It starts off soft and the cadence of the song seems the same, but it adds degrees of power and ends with the guitars and synths at the top. Now it’s up to you to judge her.

What we lack

It is the last subject included in the disc. It has details that may remind you of one of our all-time favorite bands. And what is it that we all always lack? Well that: time, damn time. But we propose one thing: if you take advantage of the little time you have, go to our Spotify, YouTube, our social networks or bultur.es, we assure you that it will be time more than well invested.
