Our photographer Michael Matejka was out in the city center and captured wonderful scenes. We are very happy to show such photos on our internet portal nordbayern.de – because many people are in a good mood to see pictures that show how others are in a good mood.
“This is how the people of Nuremberg enjoy the sun in the city” is the name of the picture gallery that was created in this way. We also posted a link to this page on Facebook, the alleged social network. With a particularly beautiful photo from Matejka’s camera: A black couple, beaming and enjoying their ice cream cones.
Almost 30 degrees in Nuremberg: This is how the people of Nuremberg enjoy the sun in the city
Plenty of sun on the holiday: On Thursday, many people went to downtown Nuremberg. With aperol and ice cream, the summer weather around 30 degrees could be enjoyed to the full.

But not everyone liked that, it triggered blatant reflexes in many users. The comments left by Facebook users from all over Germany under the entry were correspondingly. People shy away from reproducing them here – such stupid remarks are too well known.
Nevertheless, we are quoting from these comments here. Incidentally, there are still the less violent, less brutal; some things were so underground that quoting is forbidden. What follows now also shows how many users tick.
“Didn’t know that the people of Nuremberg are so heavily pigmented,” it said. Or, presumably addressed to “real”, i.e. white Nuremberg residents: “Off to work, so that the new fellow citizens can sip their ice cream in the midday sun.” It’s disgusting to see who is puking up on how – you can’t put it another way. Up to “out, out, out! Away, away, away!” were the comments on the photo.
No censorship – it’s about human dignity
Since we as a media company are responsible for the content that appears under our brand, our online team had to work a lot of overtime in the past few days. They sifted through all of the comments – and deleted all of them with racist statements.
This has nothing to do with censorship or restricted freedom of expression: we also don’t print racist letters to the editor. There are limits to freedom of expression. Racist insults or supposed jokes are what they are also intended (?) To be: insults, degradation, discrimination. Very deliberate violations of human dignity.
Against racism, for Europe: pictures of the “Demo of the Many” in Nuremberg
“Unite & shine”: Around 1500 people took part in the demonstration for freedom of art and against racism in Nuremberg on Sunday. Here come the pictures.

Incidentally, the hate comments came from all over Germany. Because a number of AfD-affiliated Facebook users shared our post, so they spread it on their channel – and thus ensured even more echo, also from members of the party that always defends itself against accusations of racism, but whose supporters just this racism completely Can spread unabashedly and undisturbed in an only supposedly social network.
Some commentators accused us of “framing”: We showed a society as we would like it. It was “embarrassing propaganda”. What nonsense. Nuremberg is colorful, we still rarely depict this diversity. A good 46 percent of Nuremberg residents have a migration background. And: The couple with the ice cream are one of them.
Two nurses from Nuremberg
Michael Matejka, our photographer, reports on how he experienced the two of them – of course, he asked if he could photograph them: “They were such nice people, they teased and we were happy together about the beautiful day.” When he heard about the shit storm that the photo had triggered, he reacted angrily: “What kind of people are they …”
“Peace and love to everyone out there”
By the way, whoever saw the post on Facebook was the couple pictured. The man posted: “Thanks to everyone out there who campaigns against racism. And for those of you with the racist comments … please try to work on yourself because this is 2021 – there is no place for racism the world, by the way, we are both a full-time working couple and German citizens like any white German, so what’s your problem? Still, peace and love to everyone out there. “
That is exactly the right answer to hate: no counter-hate, just calmness. And exactly what the racists lack: philanthropy.
