HALUAN PADANG – The latest feature launched by WhatsApp is said to have made some users ‘anxious’ who have a partner. So how does this feature work?
Feature named Disappearing Messages This can delete sent messages automatically so that it is suspected to make it easier for the cheating person. It can be activated automatically default. That way all sent chats will disappear according to the selected duration. The company also added a new option to make messages disappear in groups. However, the feature is optional and does not change anything that already exists.
“WhatsApp users will have the option to activate disappearing messages in a way default for all chats. When you activate it, all your chats or other people’s chats will be set to disappear for the selected duration,” WhatsApp wrote on Sunday (12/12/2021).
“And we’ve added new options when creating chat group which lets you enable it for the created group. This feature is made optional and does not modify or delete existing chats.”
Although a person may not know when their partner activates the feature, the opponent chat on WhatsApp can find out. There will be a notification that appears when the chat opponent activates Dissapearing Messages. So that we can know the message sent by the opponent chat will soon disappear.
Therefore, WhatsApp calls it the preferred way of communicating. “This makes it clear if not a personal matter, this is a choice made regarding how you want to communicate with everyone on WhatsApp going forward,” the Meta subsidiary said.
There are currently two durations for Dissapearing Messages. There are 24 hours and 90 days, sorta the pre-existing 7 day options.
How to activate it is quite easy. Just open Settings/After WhatsApp > click Account > Privacy > Message timer default, finally select the duration. If the option is not present, then the user will have to update the app to the latest version.
WhatsApp argues that this new feature gives a definition of what a private messaging service means now. And also makes the company closer to private conversation activities.
“We believe disappearing messages with end-to-end encryption are two features that defined what it means to be a private messaging service today, and brought us closer to the feeling of one-to-one conversation,” WhatsApp said.
