The messaging app “WhatsApp” has recently come up with a number of useful features. The last one was the ability to edit posts. As the app continues to improve, WhatsApp may soon offer usernames as well.
WABetaInfo, an independent media outlet that reports on WhatsApp news, has noticed that the WhatsApp beta Android update includes a new field in the app’s profile section where the user can choose and enter their unique username.
However, no extensive information is available yet on how the new feature will work in the app. At the same time, the existence of usernames could significantly change the way users find each other on WhatsApp, as well as increase privacy. If a user could be searched by username, they would no longer need to share their phone number or QR code to start chatting.
WhatsApp has not yet confirmed the above information, so it is not known when the new feature might be available. Either way, if approved, it will first be offered for beta testing and then rolled out to a wider range of users.
