WhatsApp’s New Feature to Transfer Chat History Between iPhones Without iCloud

WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to transfer chat history to another iPhone without using iCloud.

Currently, WhatsApp only allows ‌iPhone‌ users to migrate their chat history and media files to ‌‌another ‌iPhone‌ only if they have created a chat backup on ‌iCloud‌.

With the new feature, called ‘Forward Chats to ‌iPhone‌’, users simply download WhatsApp to their new phone, sign up with the same number, then use their old ‌iPhone‌ to scan a QR code that s displayed on the new device to automatically transfer their chat history.

As noted WaBetaInfothe new service integrated into WhatsApp will offer a significant advantage to users who only have 5 GB of free ‌iCloud‌ storage space and therefore do not have the space available to save their chat history on Apple’s servers.

The new chat forwarding feature is currently available to select beta testers who have installed the latest WhatsApp for iOS beta from the TestFlight app. It’s expected to roll out to even more people in the coming days, but it’s unclear when the feature will appear on the public version of WhatsApp.
