WhatsApp’s New Feature, iPhone Users Can Now Video Call While Opening Other Applications

KOMPAS.com – WhatsApp (WA) released a new feature for the iOS platform that allows iPhone users to make video calls while opening other applications. This feature is Picture in Picture (PiP) which has been tested since December last year.

Now, the “PiP” mode is starting to be rolled out to all iPhone users. PiP mode on WhatsApp video calls is actually not a new feature. This feature is already present for Android users.

In general, the way the Picture in Picture feature works is the same as other apps, such as Apple’s FaceTime. With PiP mode, iPhone users can minimize the screen display, so that the size will be smaller in the lower corner of the screen (floating window).

When minimized, users can reply to other chats or open other applications without having to pause or turn off video calls.

This new WhatsApp feature comes with the WA update version 23.3.77, and can be downloaded on the App Store. This feature can be tried by iPhone users running iOS version 12.0 and above.

“With Picture in Picture support for iOS. Now you can do multiple tasks (multitasking) during a WhatsApp call, without having to pause your video (call),” reads the details of the update brought by WhatsApp version 23.3.77 in App Store.

Another new WhatsApp feature on iPhone

Apart from Picture in Picture mode, WhatsApp also released another feature in the WhatsApp update version 23.3.77. One of them is adding captions (captions) to document files. Through this feature, users can later add information from documents that will be sent to a person or group on WhatsApp.

Prior to version 23.3.77 update, users could not submit documents with captions. Users can only send documents without any information, so inevitably they have to send messages twice if they need additional information.

WhatsApp has also added support for longer group names and descriptions. The goal is to make it easier for users to describe the groups that have been created.

The number of characters for group names has been increased from 25 to 100. Writing group descriptions has also become more flexible, from what was previously limited to 512 characters to 2,048 characters, as compiled by KompasTekno from Time of India, Tuesday (20/2/2023).

The last feature added to the iOS version of the WhatsApp update is Avatar, a feature that was launched in December 2022. Avatars allow users to create modified three-dimensional images of themselves.

Users can use created Avatars as profile photos and stickers in chats.

It’s worth noting that some accounts may only get this batch of updates over the coming weeks. So, keep checking for WhatsApp updates on the App Store to check what new WhatsApp features are available.
